Discernment and Leadership in the Age of AI

Drive is not the scarce resource. Discernment is.

Relentless effort aimed at the wrong thing is just expensive motion. The skill that matters now is aiming your drive at what actually counts. First in yourself, so you become the architect of your own life. Then in your team. Cast a vision so large their dreams fit inside it. Show them a clear end state. Find awesome people. Get out of the way.

AI makes noise cheap and busy easier than it has ever been. That is exactly why discernment is the advantage. AI can replace management. It cannot replace leadership.

About

The work I speak from

I am Vice President of a third-generation, family-owned general contractor in Central Florida, and the successor to its presidency. My job right now is to modernize a company my grandfather built and carry it into its next generation. That is what I speak from. Not theory. The work in front of me.

The record before that is why I can speak to leading under pressure. I spent about five years as a U.S. Army Captain. Airborne, a NATO assignment, ranked first of twelve platoon leaders. Then about three years as an FBI Special Agent out of the Baltimore field office, after graduating first academically in my class at Quantico.

I hold a B.S. in Aeronautical Science from Embry-Riddle. I am a private pilot. I live in Central Florida with my wife Brittin and our three children.

Faith first. Family second. Everything else third.
